At this time of year as early morning frosts start to come a little more often, lily of the valley, or Convallaria majalis, starts looking a bit tattered.
But one of the easiest ways of cleaning it up is to set your lawnmower at its highest setting and just mow it down, leaving the clippings in the bed. What could be easier?

Looks like starting tonight, you should be covering your outdoor plants or bringing them in, if you haven’t already to protect them from cold early morning temperatures.
Now is a great time to control outdoor mice and voles.
The more you control now, the less that will reproduce later.
Mice and voles will chew the lower bark of young shrubs and trees and leave meandering trails from beds into your lawn.
I recommend using a 2 or 3 gal. black plastic plant pot with a 2 inch semicircular hole cut out of the lip to cover the trap. This way when you flip it over, rodents can get in but birds won’t. I choose a rat trap instead of a mouse trap as that often leaves ‘survivors’.
My favorite bait? Swiss cheese chunks or peanut butter & sunflower seeds.
I know what’s easy, which ones the rabbits love and which ones naturalize.
