Going to get colder by the weekend~

With the later part of this week getting colder, plan on bringing in any houseplants you haven’t yet and have some old sheets to cover mums or veggies you want to protect.
Don’t forget to treat the houseplants with insecticidal soap BEFORE you bring them in.

Fall is Best Time to Kill Off Weeds

Did you know that now plants are starting to reverse their intake? Instead of sending nutrients to their leaves, they are actually using this time to send sugars into their roots to store energy.

This reversal of nutrients means it is a great time to apply weed killer to existing weeds in your lawn and beds for a more effective weed control. Use a commercial weed and feed but try to find one with a lower nitrogen number (first number around 20) to discourage rapid top growth in your lawn. Of course, if you only have a few weeds, spot treat them with a spritzer bottle or tank instead of blasting the whole lawn.

If you only do one feeding a year, Fall is the time to do it!

Thinking of Transplanting?

Whether a shrub or tree is in the wrong place or site plans dictate, transplanting can be done easily AFTER the bush/tree goes dormant, after leaves drop.
Here’s an article that gives necessary steps to accomplish this safely. (I am not a proponent of transplanting evergreens that have not been prepared with root pruning earlier in the season) But, those in root balls or pots are fine to plant.
